Aisling Farinella, Stylist

First & Forever

Dr. Martens have launched their new First & Forever campaign, shot by Gavin Watson in his gritty British youth culture style. A short film and advertising images feature Agyness Dean recalling her first heartbreak and sets the theme of epic first moments the brand is recalling, alongside of course with the first pair of docs you ever owned. I got mine around the back of the Illac centre…

Vodafone The Black & White Collection

The making of an image comissioned by Vodafone for their Black & White Blackberry collection.

I sound a little flaky in the video but really I had a strong idea in my head to shoot the image on the back seat upstairs on a Dublin Bus! Andreas sweet talked 5 mins from a bus driver sitting in a parking bay. A nod to teenage nights of getting overly  dressed up and jumping a bus into the bright city lights.

We did another series of images in Clontarf park also, which were pretty cool too.

Visionaire

Photography Danko Steiner

Southern Italian Riccardo Tisci, creative director of Givenchy, is the curator for the current issue of Visionaire taking on the theme of religion as seen through the eyes of art and fashion. Each issue of Visionaire invites a guest editor on board to explore their personal interpretation of a theme through collaborations and commissions, with freedom to develop the publications format. Previous editions have comprised of a set of 12″ records, a series of children’s books or come in a specially designed Louis Vuitton portfolio case. Always a limited edition, Religion (issue 60) is a leather bound collection of black & white provocative images, complete with a case inspired by a church altar piece. Contributors to this issue include Robert Maplethorpe, Jefferson Hack, Jamie Bochert, Karl Largerfeld and Patti Smith. The designer approached the project by excluding fashion credits from the book so that stylists, photographers and artists involved would be free of the industry’s commercial constraints or practice of pleasing the client.

Givenchy resort 2012

Pack your bags and head for the beach… in another country of course. Resort is designed with holidays in mind and collections for 2012 are full of surf, scuba and island in the sun influences. The shows are fun with disco at DVF and piñatas at Stella McCartney. The future is bright.

Savage Beauty

Alexander McQueen

With just one month left to go I’m still hoping that some amazing opportunity / excuse will come up for me to get to New York in time to see the Alexander McQueen tribute at the Met. Savage Beauty honours the designer who brought his collections of craftsmanship and tailoring to life with performance art, when others were conforming to catwalk presentations. Each season was a new narrative imbued with emotion and imagination. Production designers for McQueen’s fashion shows Sam Gainsbury and Joseph Bennett, were enlisted as the exhibition’s creative director and production designer and over 100 looks were selected to celebrate the designers amazing creativity and contribution to fashion history.

Mario Testino

Being photographed by Mario Testino is possibly a benchmark for celebrity and acknowledgement by the fashion industry. Celebrating a career spanning 30 years, the photographer is well known for his ability to undress and ‘reveal’ the person beneath the clothes. He’s shot everybody from Lady Di, Lady Madonna and Lady Gaga to Queen Kate and last night received another award to mark an impressive point in his history.

The Loney Beast

The Lonely Beast from Chris Judge on Vimeo.

Sometimes it’s up to us to go out and find things. This is a short film about The Lonely Beast on his trek to find others like him. Photographer Cliona O’Flaherty has also found that she now rocks as a cinematographer too. One of her first forays into film, this magic piece is based on the character from the picture book ‘The Lonely Beast’ by Chris Judge.
